Earlier this month I visited friends living in Indonesia. For over 40 years Peter has intentionally shared the Good News about God with people around him. Peters’ love for people and his passion to share the Good News caused me to reflect on the strength of my convictions.
Key bible verses and a mentor inspired Peter. I too can think of foundational promises in the bible and people who have influenced me by their life and message. But is it enough to point to people and verses that gripped me in the past?
I decided to read through Romans and invited God to impress on me afresh passages about sharing the Good News with others. Romans 10:15 stood out to me; “How can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” This picture empowers me and influenced a choice I made last weekend to be with a group of friends who, for the most part, do not believe in God.
Convictions from the past remain only a part of my history unless I choose to do some things to keep them alive and active in my life today. I intend to dwell on Romans 10:15 to strengthen my convictions.
How about you –
What do you do to keep your convictions strong?
Who are the people in your world who sharpen your focus?
What scriptures are shaping you?
