On May 3rd, Joe Maschhoff will become the new International President of The Navigators. At the end of February, the Selection Council made up of forty-two representatives from across our global movement, gathered in Colorado Springs to prayerfully consider this decision. Glen Morris and I had the privilege of being part of the Selection Council.
Considerable time was given to focusing on God and prayer as we looked to the ‘King of the Council’ to lead us in our decision. This God-focused prayer and worship fostered a real sense of joy, honesty, and unity as we interacted with one another. We took time to discern the current needs in our Worldwide Partnership as well as listen to and interact with the candidates. There was a deep sense of humility and love between the candidates, who knew each other well.
The Selection Council unanimously affirmed God’s leading in selecting Joe Maschhoff to be our next International President. We had the opportunity to hear how God has led Joe and Joy and prepared them for this next season of serving and leading. In a New Zealand connection, Joe and Joy considered moving to serve in New Zealand some years ago.
Joe Maschhoff brings a deep love for God and a heart for the lost. He is known as someone who leads from the Scriptures and listens to God. He has a passion for the Navigator Calling, Vision and Values, disciplemaking, and a history of ministry leadership. Joe and his wife, Joy, along with their three children (ages 17, 14, and 12), have faithfully served in various capacities across our Worldwide Partnership. Having been discipled by his father, also a Navigator staff member, Joe’s heart was captured by the Navigator vision during his university years. He was part of the first US EDGE Corps class. Joe spent sixteen years in ministry in Southern California, both as a gift income staff and as a conventional income leader. He then served as one of the first leaders of the US Nav20s work. In 2014, Joe and his family pioneered and lead the Navigator work in the Caribbean. They returned to the US in 2021, and Joe began serving on the International Executive Team (IET) in January 2023.
What does it look like for our Worldwide Partnership to seek God together in a decision that is this important?
