Honest conversations with God

A close friend shared this conversation they had with God recently. I was struck by their honesty with God, “I don’t feel very loved”. I was also impressed by the way God’s Spirit brought truths from the Bible to mind that my friend knew.

Me: “God, I don’t feel very loved.”

God: “But I am love” (1 John 4: 8 & 16 ‘God is love’)

Me: “But I don’t feel loved.”

God: “Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and I love you” (Isaiah 43: 4)

Me: “But I don’t feel loved.”

God: “Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and I love you” (Isaiah 43: 4)

Me: “Could I really be precious to you?”

God: “Not only that, but I chose you even before I made the world” (Ephesians 1:4-6)

Me: “Wow, could I really be loved, precious, and even chosen by you? Thank you God, now I feel it.”

My personal reflection was, “how often do I pray (and listen) like this to God?” How about you? Do you have conversations like this with God? Are there fears, anxieties, feelings, questions, concerns, or joys you could express to God? The conversation above occurred during a work day lunch break walk for my friend. Conversations with God can happen anywhere and anytime.
